Finding your way along the art history timeline is not easy. There are art movements, schools, brotherhoods, art academies and individualism and much more... It’s hard to get an overview. We hope that our Art History Timeline will give you the bigger picture of art history, when the different artists lived and in which period.
If you want to find out more about a certain artist click on his or her name to the right of the Timeline further down. Above the Timeline you can clic on an art movement or era that is also represented in our Timeline. It will give you examples of paintings, painters and a short description of that period. If there's no link attached at present, you may expect it in the near future.
Please note that the limits are not exact when one considers the development of fine arts.
Good luck, have fun - and be inspired!
